TORONTO ARTS COUNCIL - GRANT DEADLINES

VISUAL ARTS - GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUALS
DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 1

The Visual Artists program provides support to visual artists who have a professional independent art practice for the creation/production of new work or the completion of works in progress. Funds are intended to cover direct costs of creation/production, subsistence and materials. Visual Arts includes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, printmaking, bookworks, performance art, installation and fine crafts.

EMERGING ARTISTS - $3,000.

This grant is for emerging artists in the early stages of their professional career, who have produced a small body of work, and achieved some local recognition and/or have limited public exhibition experience. Generally, they have had between 2 and 7 years of professional arts practice.

MID-CAREER AND ESTABLISHED ARTISTS - $5,000. OR $8,000.

Artists in this level may choose which amount is most appropriate for their needs. Mid-career artists are past the early stages of their careers, have produced a reasonable body of work and have received recognition outside the local community. Generally, they have had between 8 and 14 years of professional arts practice. Established artists have produced an extensive body of work and have achieved national or international recognition. Generally, they have had at least 15 years of professional arts practice.

MEDIA ARTS - GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUALS
DEADLINE NOVEMBER 10

The Media Artists program provides support to media artists for the creation/ production of new work or the completion of works in progress. Funds are intended to cover direct costs of creation/production, including subsistence and materials. Applicants may apply for production and/or post-production.

Media Arts includes independent film, video and new media artworks. New media refers to works that use multi-media, computers or communications or information technologies for creative expression, including installation and performance art works that integrate such technologies.

EMERGING MEDIA ARTISTS - UP TO $4,000.

This grant is for emerging artists in the early stages of their professional career. Artists in this category have produced a small body of work, and achieved some local recognition and/or have limited public screening and/or exhibition experience. Generally, they have had between 2 and 7 years of professional arts practice.

MID-CAREER AND ESTABLISHED MEDIA ARTISTS - UP TO $10,000.

This grant is for mid-career and established artists. Mid-career artists are past the early stages of their careers, and have produced a reasonable body of work and received recognition, exhibitions or screenings outside the local community. Generally, they have had between 8 and 14 years of professional arts practice. Established artists have produced an extensive body of work and have achieved national or international recognition, exhibitions or screenings. Generally, they have had at least 15 years of professional arts practice.

The Visual Arts grant program assists artists to create and develop new work and to continue work in progress. The program is open to Ontario-based professional visual artists.

EMERGING ARTISTS - $5000.
DEADLINE DECEMBER 1

This category is for emerging artists and is reserved for artists in the early years of their professional careers who may have a small exhibition record. You must have at least 3 years of professional practice to apply to this category. Applicants may apply to only one category per year and should choose the category that is most appropriate to their artistic practice.

MID-CAREER ARTISTS - $7500.
DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 15

This category is for artists in mid-career and includes artists past the early stages of their professional career who have produced a reasonable body of work and may have a fair degree of public exposure. You must have at least 8 years of professional practice to apply to this category. If you receive a grant in this category you are no longer eligible to apply to the Emerging Artists category.

MEDIA ARTISTS: GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUALS

EMERGING MEDIA ARTISTS
DEADLINE NOVEMBER 16

To provide grants up to $10,000 to artists working with film, video and digital media as independent artist-controlled art forms. The program supports those working in a range of media production formats, including video, film, audio and digital.

This program is open to Ontario-based emerging media artists. Eligible projects are independent productions initiated by the applicant (director) where the applicant has creative and editorial control. Projects with budgets under $75,000 are eligible.

MID-CAREER AND ESTABLISHED MEDIA ARTISTS
DEADLINES OCTOBER 1, 2009 AND APRIL 15, 2010

To provide production grants to artists working with film, video and digital media as independent artist-controlled art forms. This program is open to Ontario-based professional media artists who have completed at least two independent works. Projects with budgets of $300,000 or less, in the following categories, are eligible: documentary, drama, experimental, animation, dance film/video, media art installation, new media and any fusion thereof.

CANADA COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS - GRANT DEADLINES SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER 2009

ASSISTANCE TO VISUAL ARTISTS: LONG-TERM GRANTS - DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 1

Long-Term Grants provide support over a two-year period to professional artists who have made a significant contribution to contemporary visual arts. The period of activity covered by the grant must have a series of opportunities in the fields of research and creation, production, career and networking development. The program of work must be designed to advance the long-term artistic and career development of the artist at a key moment in their career.

GRANTS TO NEW MEDIA AND AUDIO ARTISTS: RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION GRANTS - DEADLINES OCTOBER 1 AND MARCH 1

These grants assist Canadian artists working with new media or audio technologies as means of artistic expression. Grants cover artist’s subsistence costs as well as the direct costs of research, creative development and production of artworks created with new media or audio technologies.

GRANTS TO FILM AND VIDEO ARTISTS: RESEARCH/CREATION GRANTS, PRODUCTION GRANTS AND SCRIPTWRITING GRANTS - DEADLINES OCTOBER 1 AND MARCH 1

The Grants to Film and Video Artists program supports Canadian professional independent artists who use cinema and video as a mode of artistic expression, and provides them with opportunities for creative renewal and for production of independent film and video works.

TRAVEL GRANTS TO PROFESSIONALS IN THE VISUAL ARTS - DEADLINES OCTOBER 1, JANUARY 1, MARCH 1, JUNE 1

The Visual Arts Section of the Canada Council for the Arts provides a range of grants to recognize and support the independent creative work of professional Canadian artists of all cultures. These grants are intended for artists and independent critics and curators working in the following art forms: visual arts including fine craft and architecture. Travel Grants to Professionals in the Visual Arts contribute toward expenses incurred to travel to an event important to the artist’s, critic’s or curator’s career.

ASSISTANCE TO VISUAL ARTISTS: PROJECT GRANTS - DEADLINE DECEMBER 1

Project Grants support professional visual artists who contribute to contemporary visual arts for research/creation, production, and career development. The project must be significant and advance the long-term artistic practice, dissemination of the artist’s work, or career development of the applicant at a key moment in their career.

TRAVEL GRANTS TO MEDIA ARTS PROFESSIONALS - NO DEADLINE

The Canada Council’s Media Arts Section provides a range of grants in recognition and support of the independent creative work of professional Canadian artists of all cultures and defines the media arts as works in film, video, audio and new media.
