2009 Contact Toronto Photography Festival Update

The festival is huge! There are 32 feature exhibitions and, as well, more than 1000 artists in 220 other locations. There are also five site-specific installions in the city and another site-specific installation in TTC subway stations with screens.

And that's not all that the CONTACT festival offers. This year the programs that accompany the exhibitions are sure to interest a broad public. TVO (TV Ontario) will be airing 22 films during the month of May. Unfortunately I do not have cable or even a VCR! Also on the roster are eleven lectures. There are other events such as workshops, artist talks, public screenings, and panel discussions.

From May 4-9, 6 members from Magnum Photos will be holding workshops at Ryerson University. The Magnum Workshop Toronto is a five-day practice-oriented workshop that seeks to provide personal photographic growth in an intimate and intensive environment. A Magnum photographer, each with his own distinctive style and approach to photography, will lead a workshop. The photographers are Bruno Barbey, Chien-Chi Chang, David Alan Harvey, Alex Majoli, Peter Marlow and Mark Power.

If you live in Toronto don't miss this opportunity to see all that the festival offers. And if you live elsewhere book a hotel and pack your bags!!!
